The skinny cargo pants

J Brand at Park & Bond
In my personal style cargo pants were never an option....it could be that i had enough of them during my 3 years army service.... but i think it has to do more with the fact that cargos are usually just ugly (even the short version that everyone seam to wear this last summers)! They are big, baggy, comes in unattractive colors and have way too many pockets (bulky and not flat) and zippers...i like a militant inspiration when its used in sophistication.
But  than i saw the fresh cargo skinny versions and it got me wonder... and more so inspired and even wanting one.... i wouldn't probably go with the army and khaki color palate just to  keep it away form the typical cargo pants...i like the denim versions below here from G-Star...they have a cool feel and i can see them paired with a white T and a light fall crew or v-neck knit and high bulky sneakers or boots and casual looks better than ever....

3x1 denim - Start to finish custom made jeans!

The custom made possibilities have just increased and finally including a category that have not touched much yet...YOUR JEANS!
As one who got into the fashion industry because I could never find clothes that looked or fit the way I wanted them.....this could have been heaven for me back in the day, especially since denim is not an easy fabric to work with (it requires specific sewing skills, heavier machines as well as thicker threads etc.) so i couldn't make my own jeans than, but now there is a solution for guys like me -  check out 3x1! A denim company that offers bespoke denim jeans, and  named after denim’s standard weaving construction - the 3x1 Right Hand Twill.
The concept for 3x1 was born from a desire to reclaim a process that Scott Morris, the founder and designer of the brand love so much - making the finest quality jeans in the world...is that a big statement or what? well, apparently not ....
3x1 offers A custom made service where one would have the chance to work one on one with the Scott and his team, and together tailor a one-of-a-kind pair of jeans from start to finish. The process of 3x1's denim making is of the highest quality and very unique, just like a master tailor who creates a bespoke suit, by hand! Each of their sewers work on one per of denim from start to finish, there is no assembly line. They use only a single needle machine (which btw i find to be a bit crazy....) and their stitch per inch (SPI) count (11-14) is double if not more than any other regular jeans in the market which adds durability you will not get otherwise. They carry a selection of over 100 denim and novelty fabrics for you to choose from, some are rare, hard to find, or one of a kind denim qualities that are exclusive to 3x1....and offer a wide selection of buttons and rivets as well. All this can be at your service and produce your one of a kind jeans within a matter of days! Yes its not a cheap process but for those who are their own Man of Style it's priceless....Bespoke prices begin at $1200 USD and there is a $125 non-refundable deposit required to make an appointment.
In Addition 3x1 also offer men’s and women’s ready to wear denim products, which are produced in their15 Mercer Street atelier in NYC. They produce 22-25 pieces per day on average, each jean is sewn one piece at a time (just like my BOAZ shirts), and limited to either 8, 12, 16 or 24 pieces of production per style.

Currently their services are available only in NYC but coming this fall they will have other partners to spread the legend...so stay tuned!

Spring 2011 NY Fashion week - G-Star Raw

I love raw denim, there is something so cool about it, the stiffness and rigidness of the fabric makes it more sculptured than draped and gives it a masculine, rough rockish feel that i love, therefore naturally  i love what G-star does with it, the way they cut and slice the panels on their silhouettes, the cool pocket shapes and the interesting seaming are very inspiring to me .....this time using white, khaki/army tones and blue denim G-star delivered once again a cool and fresh twist to this classic cotton fabric with short slim zip up jackets, long coats and voluminous pants.

Spring 2011 NY Fashion week - Rag & Bone

"Nomads of the North African deserts" was the inspiration for Rag & Bone's Spring 2011 men's collection....looking at the show i think they took the inspiration very seriously resulting in quite a literal interpretation of the subject. I will admit that although Rag & Bone always had somewhat of a British tailoring  touch to their line (which i love), i was never really a fan of their product....as a matter of fact I don't even own any of their item, it was just never my style, and this season i think its even harder for me to relate...the look is very denim and American work wear driven and although its done in their own sophisticated way it just not my cup of tea. The look is casual and the silhouettes are looser and on the baggy side with wide leg pants and long shirts and jackets/coats (a bit too Nomads and desert style for me), with a fabric story that revolves around denim, canvas and chambray. My favorite pieces were the Chambray trench coat and some of the pants that had cool utility pockets and a fun mix of colors/fabrics and looked very comfy.
Generally the inspiration was executed very well in the collection and i would think that the Rag & Bone customer will find a lot of solid pieces in it, which is all that matters after all.

Findings - Levis bootleg dark jeans

Back Pocket Slim Boot leg cut 507 Jeans  in clean Coated denim from Levis.

WHY: well first of all its Levis and with the respect to all other million jeans makers nowadays...it all started with Levis. but for me the catch was the fit, i love Bootleg with slim waist and hips fit and i think it is the most manly fit a guy can have on...especially with boots (hence the style name). I also like as far as color either a raw denim or a real dark blue wash like these, its much more sophisticated it can be dressed up more nicely than a washed jeans and i rather let the pants get worn and washed from use (by me off-course) than pretreated. I also like the back pocket with the zipper and  the leather string (although i will admit from wearing them the last 2 weeks the leather strings did not last and eventually i lost them...). in short my last pair of jeans that i bought was the Nudie and in the last God only knows how many years i made and still making my own jeans cause it was really hard to find the perfect jeans i had in mind....so I'm glad Levis thought so too and with the addition of a reasonable price tag (as oppose to other trendy jeans line that are $200 and up) it makes them into a great FIND!

My style journal - week nine - The gingham world.....

As you know from my previous post, on my list for this spring i had a craving for gingham shirt, since i love making shirts, and after i didn't  find the right combo of style, fit and color shirt that i had in mind...i decided to make my own gingham shirt... i wanted a sharp military inspired shirt with a comfortable fit and a smart sophisticated look, a shirt that i can dress up or down for everyday look. Therefore i went with purple (one of my favorite colors) in a gingham Egyptian cotton fabric, a military inspired details of the  front button-flap patch pockets and epaulet tabs on the shoulders, and to seal the deal i added my signature - the extra long buttoned sleeve tabs......the result is a well fitted button down shirt with a classic feel and a contemporary twist. For this week's look i simply paired the shirt with my dark raw jeans and a black pointy boots.

This week I'm wearing:
Purple gingham shirt - Boaz
Raw denim pant - Boaz
Boots - Juno New york

My style journal - week eight.... casual city cowboy!

Earlier i shared with you my obsession for a denim shirt for spring...so here we go..... i got this shirt at the Gap for $54.50 and as i said before I'm impressed! I really like the fit, the hand is pretty soft as well,  the color could have been a little darker but the fading and the wash make up for it.
Although Casual is not usually my go to style i

The DENIM SHIRT - A Must have for spring!

Spring is finally here, which i LOVE! And it is a great opportunity to refresh and update your wardrobe. So in the next few weeks i will share with you some of the items that i have on my "must have" list for the season (a list that btw is increasing as fast as the temperature out there....).
The first item on the list is the Denim shirt! .....generally, an unusual item for me to want since my personal style (and if you followed my blog before you would notice it by now) is inspired by a dressier look rather than casual, therefore the urge for a casual staple such as a washed, vintage looking denim shirt in my spring wardrobe caught me by surprise ..... but since dressing and styling is all about fun and reinventing i followed my heart and went for some online shopping... and here is what i found....

Dry and raw....yet soooooo beautiful

I love denim, it is one of my favorite fabrics to wear and to design with, yet I haven’t bought a pair of new jeans in forever and the reason is that for the last 10 years I just did not like any of the jeans in the market.…. The denim market had a great run especially in the premium market but with all the million developments of different washes, stitches, and styles the classic cool looking denim that I like disappeared from the shelves. Luckily for me I made my own jeans for years and waited….. About 4 years ago while in a department store looking for a jeans for my wife my eyes landed on these beautiful pair of RAW denim, they were dry, heavy and stiff like a cardboard, the fit was tight and almost uncomfortable, the price was sky rocking ($275)…… but man these jeans LOOKED GOOD! It was a pair of Nudie! This Italian brand has a real true passion for denim with inspiration drawn from everyday’s life, they use Japanese denim that ages beautifully, their raw denim is to be wore for at list 6 months before its first wash to let the body form its shape by letting the body oils and everyday life settle in the fabric and form into a second skin. There are about 13 different fits on their line from the slim “Thin Finn” to the looser “Easy Emil” in different washes but my favorite is the classic 5 pockets “Regular Alf” in a dry selvage denim, it’s a bootcut that can be worn tight (the way I like it) or baggy. For a clean and sharp look pair those with slick button down shirt and dressy shoes or for a cool and easy look add boots and a worn T….
Available online ($269)
