I get a lot of questions from readers, customers and friends on how to remove red wine stains from your clothes, so i decided to dedicate a post for that. We all found ourselves staining our most favorite clothing item at a dinner or party and by the time we get it to the cleaners its too late to be fully removed, so here are some first aid and thorough aid for removing red wine stains.
You are on your first date, it's going really well and you're both having fun, as you telling her your favorite joke you rich to grab the salt and pepper and ooooops .....your arm hits the wine glass and push it right onto your date's white dress.....you freeze for a split a second but than you recover and do that: apply water, club soda or white wine and using a white clean napkin softly blot (no rubbing) the stain, but do it from the outside edges in, to avoid the stain spreading. This applies only when the stain is still fresh and wet, once its dry it will be harder to get off. Ok so that calms her down and she plays it cool but you can tell it bathers her cause it wasn't fully removed... this is your opportunity to really win her over. Take her home, offer her some white wine and go to work....take off her dress (make sure its not dry clean only, otherwise the next few steps will not apply) and than mix one of the following 2 remedies:
Equal amounts of liquid detergent or soap and hydrogen peroxide
1 tablespoon of dish soap with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 2 cups of lukewarm water
Than poor it onto the stain, let it soak for a minute than using clean white napkin/paper towel with cold water only blot the stain until its no longer visible. Please make sure to separate other parts of the garment with a towel so the stain will not penetrate through, also try the remedy first on a small part of the fabric just to make sure it doesnt discolor the fabric.
One other way you can try is white wine and baking soda, soak the stain in white wine, poor baking soda on it and let it sit for few hours (it will give you time to get to know each other better...), than wash with cold water.
Easy enough right? Turning what could have been a disastrous evening into an art performance by the hero (you)!
Cheers!
These are really helpful tips! Thanks for sharing this post. I've learned a lot.
