How to 4th of July style?

Dear readers, in order to keep your style juices flowing and keep things interesting and fun around here, A Man of Style decided to have an addition to our authors.... which so far included only me :)... and what could be a better time to do it than Independence day???
So sit back, unbutton your jacket, release your tie and allow me to introduce Lis Collins! Lis...they are all yours.....

Ah, 4th of July. Time for burgers and barbecuing, parades and streamers and fireworks of course! It's the one time of year you can dress like a flag and get away with it. But who wants to look like a flag? Thanks Betsy Ross, but no thanks. Here are a few patriotic options, sans flag.
In the 5 boroughs there are two events that are synonymous with 4th of July. Start your day off right at Coney Island and watch master eaters devour hot dogs. End it in style at Hudson Terrace rooftop with a few cocktails.
Hot Dog Contest
On one end of the cultural spectrum, there's the annual Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest, in Coney Island. Contestants come from all over the world on this sacred national holiday to do what Americans do best- eat. Legend has it the contest began in 1916 as a way to settle a dispute on patriotism between 4 immigrants. This may or may not be true, but I still can't think of a better way to spend the 4th than with historic roller coasters, hot dogs, and the beach
The ketchup may be flying, but with this red gingham buttondown from Asos, you've nothing to worry about!

Ceravelo is bringing the ascot tie back!

The ascot tie is back! That's the message from Ceravelo who is taking action on bringing it back!
Yes, for a long time i thought as well that as much as i like ascots i will probably wait for few years until I get to a certain age to start wearing them....that is until I came across Ceravelo - an online ascot boutique based out of San Francisco who shed a new (contemporary) light on my ascot perception - it can look young, cool and is a great style addition for the modern man!...and not only for formal wear!

Ceravelo is co-owned by Steven Arevalo and Jackie Lopez. They entered the men’s fashion market with a unique perspective and redesigned the traditional ascot tie to appeal to the modern gentleman. They focus on environmental sustainability by hand making each piece from repurposed and vintage material. Every ascot is also reversible and one of a kind.
In order to get a deeper look into the brand and the vision behind it i asked to interview Steven and he agreed so here we go:
A Man Of Style: Do you remember the first Ascot you got/made/wore? Is that where it all clicked?
Steven: The first ascot that I wore was to a Christmas party in 2008. A friend of mine had turned me on to the dandy little accessory and yes, that’s when it all clicked. The first one I wore was actually one that a seamstresses, in a custom tailor shop, and I had made together. I shopped around at some of the San Francisco fabric shops and actually found some YSL vintage remnant silk. I brought the fabric and a template to him one evening and sat there for an hour or so as he explained some of the sewing basics, such as, cutting on the bias. He had me pin the two pieces of fabric together while he tended to some other work and after I was finished he did his magic.
A Man Of Style: Your ascots are made out of re-purposed material, right? Where do you find your fabrics?
Steven: Yes. All of our ascot ties are made from a combination of either re-purposed/vintage or new

My style Journal - Week one

Ever since I can remember I loved clothes and enjoyed dressing. Eventually, this led me to a career as a fashion designer. Over the years I developed my own individual style. To describe it in words will not do it any justice since, literary descriptions are not my strongest skill (and here I am writing a blog and expecting you to read it, ha?). But since my goal in creating this blog is to inspire you to discover and develop your own sense of style and create your own unique voice I feel that the best way is to lead by example. Therefore I was looking for a creative way to communicate my style to you (after all, I will first need to gain your trust in my credibility before I can suggest and advice you). Well, unfortunately the idea I came up with is not as creative as I hoped for but it’s definitely one that will get my point across and hopefully will inspire you the same way others out there inspire me. So today I am starting my style Journal where i will post a weekly photo with my favorite outfit of the week for your review….. I highly encourage you to leave your feedback and would love to hear your thoughts and input …whether it's good or bad! Cause recognizing what you like and what not is the first step in building your new wardrobe, I hope you’ll enjoy it and hopefully together we will inspire others…..

This week I'm wearing:
Black corduroy vest - BOAZ
Pinstriped cotton shirt - BOAZ
Gold Cufflinks - vintage (my wife's grandfather)
Black diamond tie - Calvin Klein
Raw Boot cut Jeans - BOAZ
Boots - Juno New York
